Eric J. Benner

Eric Benner has been with the firm since 1989 and has over 35 years of experience in numerous areas of the law. His practice centers heavily on family law handling contested custody disputes, complex divorce cases (including high value asset divisions), paternity matters, adoptions, guardianships, and estate issues. Eric is a registered family law mediator (trained in 2009) and has successfully mediated numerous cases, helping parties resolve disputes out of court to save time, reduce conflict, and maintain control over outcomes.
Along with the area of family law, he has extensive experience in criminal defense, handling offenses from Operating While Intoxicated to major felonies.
Eric also practices in personal injury litigation, having represented hundreds of injured clients and obtained favorable recoveries.
Eric earned his J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1989 and received a B.S. in Business Economics and Public Policy from Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 1986. He is admitted to practice in Indiana (1989), the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the United States Supreme Court. In professional service, Eric has served as Vice President of the Hamilton County Bar Association (1996-1997). He has also contributed to the community by serving on the Hamilton County Alcoholic Beverage Commission (1999-2007). Earlier in his career, he gained experience as a law clerk in the Indiana Tax Court and for Federal Magistrate, J. Patrick Ensley. Eric remains a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and continues to apply his wide-ranging legal expertise to assist clients in family, criminal and civil matters.
Eric has made oral arguments multiple times in the Indiana Supreme Court and has made significant contributions to the law in the State of Indiana relating to civil contempt, having successfully argued the following cases:

Eric and his family have lived continuously in Fishers since 1989, and have been actively involved in the St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church and school community.
